A film adaptation of Hazelight Studios’ acclaimed co-op video game Split Fiction is in the works, we hear. More details below.
Just two weeks after Hazelight Studios released its latest critically acclaimed videogame, Split Fiction, a film adaptation has been announced, as reported by Variety. Apparently the positive reaction to the game has started quite a bidding war for the rights to make a film version, and media company Story Kitchen (which is also behind the planned adaptations of Vampire Survivors and Sleeping Dogs) is currently getting a script together and finding a director and cast.
Split Fiction, which requires a friend to play with, follows Zoe and Mio, two writers who were promised publishing deals. Once they arrive at the publishing house, they’re asked to step onto platforms where a machine will transport them into an immersive experience of their stories. Hmm, that’s not suspicious at all…
It doesn’t quite go to plan, and Mio and Zoe’s stories get mixed up; the pair are stuck together in the experiment, trying to find a way out by chasing glitches that lead them to each other’s stories, which couldn’t be more different. Mio’s sections are hard-core sci-fi while Zoe’s are magical fantasy, creating a fascinating blend of genres.
Just like the studio’s previous game, the phenomenal It Takes Two, players control a character each, and the game is presented with a split screen. And, just like It Takes Two, it’s more than likely to cause a lot of heated, well-meaning arguments between you and whoever youāre playing with ā and yes, I speak from experience. That being said, Split Fiction is an outstanding game with beautiful visuals and a plethora of references to other games, like Assassin’s Creed, Sonic The Hedgehog and Hazelight’s own It Takes Two.
It Takes Two is also set for a film adaptation with Amazon handling it. Both games, with their intricate, emotional narratives, are primed for film adaptations. 2025 is bringing us a lot of videogame-related stuff, in fact, as The Last Of Us season 2 taking over smaller screens and Until Dawn and The Minecraft Movie set for cinemas this spring. Five Nights At Freddyās 2 is due to scare our socks off just before Christmas.
