Upcoming horror film adaptation Until Dawn has added a memorable face from the videogame on which itās based: one Peter Stormare.
Itās been around six months since we learned that Sony is developing a film version of Until Dawn, the 2015 ‘cabin in the woods’-style horror game that impressed players with its branching narrative paths and cinematic visuals. Screen Gems is co-producing with PlayStation Productions and Shazam! helmer David F Sandberg is on board to direct. Gary Dauberman, the screenwriter behind such horror mainstays as It, Annabelle and The Nun has written the script and Screen Gems has described it as an ‘R-rated love letter to the horror genre, focusing on an ensemble cast.’
The videogame cast featured plenty of up and coming stars who would go on to do great things: Oscar-winning actor Rami Malek appeared, as did Scream 6′s Hayden Panettiere and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Brett Dalton, all playing hunted teens trapped in a remote cabin. Earlier this month, the first few names of the film adaptationās ensemble were released and theyāre also up and comers who may go on to become established names: Michael Cimino (the actor, not The Deer Hunter director), Ji-young Yoo and Odessa A’zion.
The most unsettling character in the original game was played by the mighty Peter Stormare (of Fargo fame) who featured in a nightmarish and haunting role that fans of the game will surely remember. While the rest of the game cast have clearly aged out of their roles by now, fans were hoping that Stormare would return to reprise his role.
Happily, we can report (thanks to The Hollywood Reporterās report) that Stormare has indeed been cast in the film version; heāll be playing the same friendly therapist character who is no way threatening. Not at all. Maia Mitchell and Belmont Cameli have also been added to the cast of teenage characters. Cameli will also feature in Barry Levinson’s mob film Alto Knights, which stars Robert De Niro and which Warner Bros will release later this year. Mitchell is a singer/actress who has starred in a number of projects for The Disney Channel.
Weāll bring you more on Until Dawn when we hear it.
