The long-in-the-works Voltron movie has reportedly taken a step forward, with Amazon MGM said to have the rights and Red Notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber signed up.
Crikey, we hope that if the Earth ever is in peril, Voltron can come to our aid quicker than he can get his long-gestating movie project off the ground. A fresh report from Jeff Sneider today claims that Amazon MGM has won the bidding rights to secure the live action Voltron project which comes with Red Notice director, Rawson Marshall Thurber attached.
This news is an exact copy of a story we covered all the way back in 2022, however, so weāre not sure whatās been going on in the last two years (although we have a good idea). Weād imagine that last yearās Hollywood strikes probably put paid to Voltron's momentum, but it seems that things are once again moving ā even if the report of Amazon MGM triumphantly securing the rights to the film ā and Thurberās services ā over other studios such as Warner Bros and Universal feels a lot like Groundhog Day.

The giant robotās left fist is a flippinā robot lionās jaw ā which in theory makes its left hook a simultaneous punch and lionās bite, surely the coolest addition to a robot since the T-1000 got knives for hands in Terminator 2: Judgment Day or the fembots in Austin Powers got nipples that could spit out gunfire. In fact, Voltron came before either of them so yes, in our mind thatās a clear winner.
Fans have at least have had the animated show, Voltron: Legendary Defender, to enjoy in the fairly recent past, although it looks like the live action version may actually be happening this time. Rawson Marshall Thurber has previously helmed Skyscraper and Red Notice and whilst neither of those blockbusters were critically acclaimed, they were also seriously lacking in the āgiant robot comprised of several smaller robotsā department.
Weāll bring you more on Voltron as we hear it.
