The upcoming Game Of Thrones spin-off A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms won’t now be landing in 2025 as anticipated. More here.
As summer rolls around, we’ve been patiently waiting for a release date for HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms. At some point soon, we imagined a shiny trailer landing and some tantalising footage of Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire, sweeping us towards the expected release date later this year.
That’s not the case, it seems. According to Variety, the show’s launch has been pushed back into 2026 and so our wait must go on. The show officially began production last summer, and it looks like for whatever reason, won’t be ready in time to debut in 2025.
Whilst an early 2026 release date is said to be on the cards, it still seems like a real miss to us. Setting up A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms and House Of The Dragon in alternate release years would provide HBO with a much-needed supply of Westeros action. By the time mid-2026 rolls around, it will have been two years since House Of The Dragon's second season ended with a thud, and delayed returns to George RR Martin’s fantasy world – along with that highly underwhelming finale – won’t help with maintaining the relevance of Westeros-based tales.
Here’s the full synopsis for A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms which based on a series of really fun stories penned by Martin:
“A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Tanzyn Crawford, Daniel Ings and Sam Spruell are joining Claffey and Ansell in the cast. The series is adapted from George R R Martin’s novella The Hedge Knight and Owen Harris and Sarah Adina Smith have directed three episodes each of the 6-episode first season.
