Erotic thriller Deep Water, starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas, finally has a trailer and release date.
After many Covid-related delays and being removed from release schedule entirely at the end of last year, Deep Water finally has a teaser trailer. The erotic thriller, starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas, marks director Adrian Lyne’s return to the genre. He is best known for Indecent Proposal and Fatal Attraction, with the latter earning him a Best Director nomination at the Oscars. He also directed Flashdance and psychological horror Jacob’s Ladder. This is Lyne’s first film in 20 years.
Deep Water is based on a novel of the same name by Patricia Highsmith, and sees a married couple begin to play twisted mind games with each other. Affleck and de Armas play the leading couple, Vic and Melinda Van Allen. The supporting cast includes Tracy Letts, an actor, playwright, and screenwriter who most recently had uncredited roles in both Ghostbusters: Afterlife and The Woman In The Window. Lil Rel Howery, Dash Mihok, Finn Wittrock, Jacob Elordi, and Rachel Blanchard also costar.
It’s been announced that the thriller will go straight to streaming in the US, with it making its debut on 18th March on Disney’s Hulu streaming platform. In the UK and most other international territories, it will debut on Amazon Prime Video (on the same date), as reported by Digital Spy.
Take a look at the teaser below-
It’s an extremely brief but memorable clip that doesn’t give much away. But it is at least proof that the film really does exist after being delayed so many times. Bought by Disney during the merger with 20th Century Fox, the erotic thriller has had its fair share of different release dates. It hopped from late 2020 to August 2021, then wound up with a January 2022 date. This is before it was removed from Disney’s release schedule entirely in December last year.
Given that the erotic thriller genre has been all but dead for some time, it will be intriguing to see it return. Even if it is only on the small screen.
Deep Water will be streaming on Amazon Prime Video from 18th March 2022.
