Coyote Vs ACME’s arrival has been delayed by the announcement of when Barbie is turning up.
Warner Bros unveiled the first image of Margot Robbie as Barbie this week from the upcoming movie of the same name at CinemaCon. The project features Robbie, Will Ferrell, Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey and America Ferrera. Behind the camera, the rather exciting creative team of Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach penned the script, and what’s more, Gerwig is directing it, following on from her excellent adaptation of Little Women.
As well as getting a first glimpse of Robbie in the title role, Warner Bros also announced that the film would be getting a prime summer release slot of July 2023. Whilst this makes sense given the name value of the Barbie brand and the level of talent involved, it does mean that the studio has in turn bumped Coyote vs ACME from that release date, removing it from the Warner Bros release schedule entirely, at least for the present.
That project stars John Cena and Will Forte and is said to follow Coyote rather than his nemesis, Road Runner, with the synopsis reading as such: ‘The furry and four-legged Coyote takes centre stage in the story, which sees him sue the Acme Corporation for the not-quite-in-working-order devices he has received from them over the years in his quest to best his potential meal, the Road Runner, as seen in the classic cartoons.’ Forte is set to play ‘a down-on-his-luck (human) attorney who takes on Wile E. as a client in his lawsuit, only to discover that his boss at his former law firm (played by Cena) is representing Acme’.
James Gunn is producing the film, which will be directed by Dave Green, who has previously helmed Earth To Echo and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows.
Whilst Warner Bros have currently removed the film entirely from its release schedule, we’d imagine that’s because it wants to see what dates other studios such as Disney are eyeing up before it announces any further details. The move does make it clear that Barbie is very high on the studio’s list of priorities and we’re hoping that we don’t have to wait too much longer into 2023 to see Coyote vs ACME either.
