Scott Derrickson drops out of directing Doctor Strange 2, with ‘creative differences’ cited.
In a surprise announcement, Marvel Studios has confirmed that Scott Derrickson is departing the director’s chair on the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness.
Derrickson, who helmed the first movie and is a terrific person to follow on Twitter, will remain attached in an executive producer capacity. But the hunt is now on for a new helmer for the film, which is set to be release on May 7th 2021.
The reasons for Derrickson’s departure? Simple creative differences. As Marvel’s statement reads, “Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU”.
Here’s Derrickson’s own Tweet about his departure…
Marvel and I have mutually agreed to part ways on Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. I am thankful for our collaboration and will remain on as EP.

Benedict Cumberbatch is set to return in the lead role of the film, of course, and as we hear more on the project, we’ll let you know.
