Set to shoot next May, something big is brewing for Spider-Man 4, with its filming said to be lasting for six months ā€“ almost twice the length of 2019ā€™s Far From Home.

Thereā€™s been so much uncertainty around the next Spider-Man film that at this point; since Spider-Man: No Way Home grossed almost $2bn during its 2021 theatrical run, the future of the series has been pretty unclear.

Director Jon Watts chose to walk away from the franchise (he recently made Wolfs for Apple) and as such, a decision had to be made regarding who would come in with the ability to generate the same levels of charm and earnestness that Watts bought to the films. Destin Daniel Crettin, helmer of Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings eventually got the gig, (after other names such as Sam Raimi and Justin Lin were floated) but not before there were plenty of stories circulating about Marvel and Sony falling out over the direction of the fourth film.

Rumours suggested that Marvel wanted to tell a more street-level story, whereas Sony was keen to go once again for the big, splashy team-up film we got in No Way Home. While nothing has been publicly announced, the film is set to shoot next May and a six month production window has been booked in according to Daniel Richtman. Thatā€™s a rather lengthy shoot, and being the nosy parkers that we are, we canā€™t help wondering why that is.

Could both Marvel and Sony have gotten their way here? A six month shoot would certainly give the production enough time to shoot two films, back-to-back, for example. That would allow for a more grounded tale to then explode into the big multiversal, multi-Spidey tale Sony is said to have wanted, whilst also keeping Marvel happy. Should the project get anywhere near the tremendous box office haul of No Way Home, we can imagine how much cash two films could bring in.

Even if it is just one production, thatā€™s a pretty big scale. 2019ā€™s Spider-Man: Far From Home only shot for three and a half months and that production toured Europe. What on earth the two studios are cooking up we donā€™t know, but something big is cetainly brewing. 2026 looks like being the release window for this one, but when we hear ore in the meantime, weā€™ll certainly let you know.
