Update: The eagerly-anticipated kaiju sequel Godzilla Minus Zero is due out this November, and we now have our first look at what it has in store.
The first teaser tells us that it’s two years after the events of Godzilla Minus One, in which its title monster emerged to terrorise post-war Japan. This time, it looks as though the Big G will menace New York. Have a gander:
What’s that strange blue vortex in the sky? Could it be some sort of time tunnel? If so, maybe Godzilla could zip forward to the 1980s and pay a visit to a certain gold skyscraper…
Godzilla Minus One is out on the 6th November 2026.

January 12th 2026: The release date for kaiju sequel Godzilla Minus Zero has been confirmed. It’s out in US cinemas on the 6th November 2026, with a release in the UK and elsewhere hopefully not too far behind.
Studio GKids Films announced the date via its account on that frankly horrendous social media platform owned by Elon Musk, and was brought to our attention by Dark Horizons.
Takashi Yamazaki is back as writer, director and VFX supervisor; if the sequel’s half as good as the 2023 original, Godzilla Minus One, then we should be in for something special.

3rd November 2025: Japanese filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki received almost universal acclaim for his instant kaiju classic, Godzilla Minus One. Released in 2023, it was both a huge box office hit comparative to its budget of $15m or less, and also an Oscar winner – it received a Best Visual Effects statuette for its visuals, which were supervised by Yamazaki himself.
It was announced in April that Yamazaki would return to direct a sequel, and production company Toho Studios has announced its official title: Godzilla Minus Zero, or Godzilla -0.0. Or, even more snappily, per its social media post, G-0.0.
Once again, it’ll be something of an auteur’s project, with Yamazaki both writing the script, directing and serving as VFX supervisor. There’s no detail yet on plot and setting, though that Minus Zero title implies that we might be in for some sort of prequel.
Yamazaki’s previous film was essentially a war drama in disguise; the story of a traumatised WWII kamikaze pilot, Koichi (Ryunosuke Kamiki) dealing with his survivor’s guilt, only to see the raging Godzilla emerge and rain down yet more horror on an already battered Japan. Like Ishiro Honda’s 1954 Godzilla, the title monster serves as a big, lumbering metaphor for Japan’s collective post-war horror.

The result was one of the most praised and commercially popular Godzilla movies in years – and one that provided a refreshingly personal counterpoint to the increasingly big, glossy kaiju films put out by Hollywood over the past decade.
Speaking of which, the latest of those, Godzilla X Kong: Supernova, went into production in May. Directed by Grant Sputore, it’s set to star Kaitlyn Dever, Dan Stevens, Matthew Modine, Sam Neil, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo and more besides. That’s quite a cast.
This latest MonsterVerse opus is due out on the 26th March 2027. We’ll bring you more on Godzilla Minus Zero's progress as we get it.
