British movie podcast of the week: For Your Reconsideration

Every week, we recommend an independent UK movie podcast – and this time, we’re looking at one that seeks to put fresh eyes on maligned movies.

Some films aren’t great. Despite huge budgets, big name stars and well-established names behind the camera, the idea is often better than the execution. It’s important to note, however, that even the biggest turkeys still have a huge team of people working hard behind the scenes, and the biggest flops still have redeemable features.

The guys over at For Your Reconsideration are here to redress the balance of overtly negative reviews and the criticism aimed at certain movies that might not be technically the greatest. It’s the brainchild of ex-film students Simon Lewis, Rob Parker and James Stuart, who found a common love of 90s action movies and Nicolas Cage, as opposed to their fellow students admiration for the finer cinematic arts and have been friends ever since

The criteria for a movie to be featured on For Your Reconsideration is simple. It must either be considered ‘rotten’ at review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes or it must be classed as a box office flop; a movie that failed to make back its production budget. Each host selects a movie for the podcast to cover each week and ultimately, they discuss the movie at length and discover why each movie deserves a second chance at cinematic redemption, or indeed if they do.

Proudly part of the Flickering Myth podcast network, For Your Reconsideration is often hilarious, sometimes irreverent but always a great listen. Simon, Rob and James clearly have a lot of fun making this podcast, they all have a wonderful camaraderie and a genuine love for movies that deserve to be revisited and re-evaluated.
