The physical version of Baldur’s Gate 3 will come on two discs for PS5 and three for the Xbox Series X/S, and it’s looking very deluxe indeed. More here:

Larian Studios has revealed a physical version of its smash-hit RPG Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Deluxe Edition will ship with the game on two discs for the PS5, and on three discs for the Xbox Series X/S. The PC version, meanwhile, doesn’t have the game on the disc: instead it ships with a single DVD that contains an app for downloading the game from Steam.

There are all sorts of other extras included with the Deluxe Edition, too, which retails at $79.99/€79.99. There’s a game soundtrack on three CDs, a double-sided map, stickers, patches and a poster of a mind flayer, but best of all is the box artwork. It’s styled after the first two Baldur’s Gate games, so if you already have the original PC big box versions of Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2, the Deluxe Edition will look perfect next to them on your shelf.

The Deluxe Edition also includes a host of digital goodies, such as an exclusive skin and a bard song pack, plus a digital artbook and some character sheets.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Deluxe Edition is expected to ship in Q1 2024 – and incidentally, the Xbox release date for Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to be announced at the Game Awards on 8th December.

In terms of game preservation, the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 on disc is fantastic news, as history has already shown how digital-only games can be easily lost to time. Here’s hoping that Alan Wake 2 also gets the physical treatment in the not too distant future.
