With shooting set to start imminently, reports are suggesting that Jodie Comer may be starring in Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later.

Fans of 2002’s 28 Days Later are all too aware of the decades-long gap that exists between Danny Boyle’s 2002 zombie horror and his follow-up, expected to release in cinemas sometime next year. While it might not quite be 28 Years Later, as the upcoming film’s title suggests, it won’t be far off – in fact, it feels like we’ve been waiting forever for this film to happen.

Still, every nugget of news we’ve heard thus far has made the waiting worthwhile.

Boyle returning to direct; Alex Garland once again writing the script; Cillian Murphy making himself available to return. Sony backing the project with around $60m, precisely the kind of sum that should mean the project should have some creative leeway.

It’s all welcome news. Even the revelation that the next film will launch a trilogy has us cautiously optimistic given that Boyle and Alex Garland are reuniting creatively. We’re feeling quite spoiled then, given we’re now hearing that Jodie Comer may well be joining the project ahead of its planned shoot next month, according to World Of Reel.

Jodie Comer elevates anything she appears in and the thought of her occupying a central role in 28 Years Later is an exciting prospect. The actor will next be seen in Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders, and she was also excellent in last year’s The End We Start From, a survival drama which features a remarkable central performance from Comer.

More good news then,as far as this project goes, should this report prove to be accurate. We’ll bring you more on 28 Years Later as we hear it, but with shooting reportedly set to start soon, hopefully we’ll be getting more casting news soon.
