HMV Ayr is the latest HMV store to earn a reprieve.
Earlier this month, music and movie (amongst other things) retailer HMV was saved from collapse by the Canadian firm Sunrise Records. As a consequence of the deal, 100 of the chain’s 127 stores were saved. The 27 that weren’t shut up shop pretty much instantly.
However, there’s now been a reprieve for a handful of them.

The chain’s new owners have been in negotiations with landlords, and have managed to agree a new detail in some cases. As such, a small number of branches previously earmarked for closure have suddenly re-opened their days.
Those branches are:
HMV Glasgow
HMV Merry Hill
HMV Bath
HMV Sheffield
HMV Bluewater
HMV Reading
HMV Plymouth
HMV Tunbridge Wells
Fopp Glasgow
UPDATE: HMV Ayr has been saved as well (thanks to Mark Pledger for alerting us)
It’s unlikely that more of the previously-closed stores will be saved, with the flagship shop on Oxford Street in London the highest profile casualty. The saving of these nine, though, is a pleasant surprise.
