Rockstar Games’ Sam Houser has now confirmed that the debut trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 will arrive in ‘early December’.

Update: Following reports of an imminent Grand Theft Auto 6 announcement, Rockstar Games’ Sam Houser has taken to the studio’s website to confirm that a trailer is indeed on the way in “early December.”

“Next month marks the 25th anniversary of Rockstar Games,” Houser writes. “We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto.”

Exciting stuff.

Our original story follows:

Original Story: It’s been a decade since the release of Grand Theft Auto V, though Rockstar’s kept the profits rolling in with the likes of 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2 and the ongoing cash cow that is Grand Theft Auto Online.

According to a report by Bloomberg (via IGN), though, Rockstar is finally about to announce Grand Theft Auto 6, with an official unveiling said to be happening as soon as this week. Bloomberg’s sources also suggest that a trailer will follow in around a month’s time – Geoff Keighley’s glitzy Game Awards are set to happen on 7th December, which would be a logical venue for its premiere.

There have been hints of Grand Theft Auto 6's imminent arrival for some time. In August, publisher Take-Two Interactive held an earnings call with investors, in which it said that the fiscal year 2025 “is a highly anticipated year for the company”, adding that it believed its takings for that time frame could be as high as $8 billion. And what’s the biggest IP on Take-Two Interactive’s books? Grand Theft Auto, obviously. Do try to keep up.

At any rate, if Grand Theft Auto 6 is indeed scheduled for release in the fiscal year 2025, that would place it somewhere between April 2024 and March the following year. It’d certainly make sense, then, that Rockstar would want to start banging the promotional drum for the crime sim sequel now if it’s planning a spring or summer 2024 release.

Any kind of reveal would certainly help cool the mountain of rumours and leaks that have swirled around GTA 6 for the past year or two. Earlier reports and what purported to be genuine leaked footage suggest the game will be set in a new take on Vice City, and will feature a female protagonist for the first time in the series.

Will any of this prove accurate? It’s possible we’ll find out either this week or next month.
