Ben Whishaw suggests that the entire cast may be replaced for the next generation of James Bond 007: more here.
Speculation remains rife as to the future of the James Bond movie saga, even as franchise guardians Eon keeps up its policy of radio silence until it’s ready to talk. Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson are presumably moving things along behind the scenes, but even as the rumour mill throws in names of directors and potential successors to Daniel Craig, we’re still seemingly as we were come the end of 2021’s No Time To Die.
Still, when someone involved with the James Bond saga has a thing or two to say, it does come with a little more weight. And while Ben Whishaw – being interviewed on the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg programme over the weekend – is just proffering his opinion, it does suggest more clues.
Whishaw has played Q in the last three James Bond films, but he thinks his time assisting 007 is now at an end. “I don’t think I’m going to be in the next one”, he admitted. “I think they’re going to start all over again, and with a new cast, a completely new cast”. Hard to think when the last time that happened was: 1995’s GoldenEye carried across Desmond Llewelyn, for instance, even though virtually all other personnel were changed.
Whishaw does caution that “I think that’s my hunch, but I don’t know. I have no idea”. That also plausible as well: cast members of the James Bond films have regularly said that the secrecy during the build up to a new film affects them as well.
Ben Whishaw did note that he’d return if he was asked to, but by the sounds of it, he hasn’t been asked as of yet.
The current best guess is that Eon will start making its announcements this side of Christmas, but that’s absolutely speculation at this stage. More as we hear it, as we’re sure every other website will forget to cover the news.
