Given that approximately 12% of movie news stories over the past few months seem to have an AI side to them (a fact I’ve absolutely not run through Chat Burn The Planet or whatever it’s called), here’s one with a brighter element to it.
Steven Spielberg’s superb 2001 movie, A.I.: Artificial Intelligence, is going to be making its 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray later this year.

So far, it’s only the Steelbook edition that’s gone up for order, which come with a handsome £34.99 price tag. As it’s a Warner Bros release, I’d expect the standard release to be following fairly soon thereafter.
Furthermore, there’s no official release date announced just yet, but the disc will be out this side of Christmas I understand.
If you’ve not had the pleasure of the film, it’s a terrific piece of work that Ryan was writing about earlier this year (in relation to the movie Obsession), around the time of the release of Disclosure Day. This was the movie that Stanley Kubrick planned to make for many, many years, before Spielberg took the project on after Kubrick’s death. There’s a hell of a film story behind the movie.
The disc itself comes with extra features on an added Blu-ray, although there doesn’t appear to be anything new. Still, you get a documentary, an assortment of interviews, storyboards and such like.

In the not-so-distant future, David, a robot with actual human feelings, especially a never-ending love for his “mother,” Monica, is adopted as a substitute for her real son, who, afflicted with an incurable disease, remains in “cryo-stasis.” David lives happily with Monica and her husband, but when the couple’s real son returns home after being cured, David’s life changes dramatically.
