Kingsley Ben-Adir transforms into Bob Marley in the new trailer for Bob Marley: One Love which hits cinemas in February.

We first got a glimpse of Reinaldo Marcus Green’s biopic on Bob Marley back in July when a tantalising teaser trailer for Bob Marley: One Love was revealed. Paramount Pictures have now released a full trailer which gives us a better look at Kingsley Ben-Adir as the iconic musician.

Take a look at the brand new trailer below.

The film will focus on Marley’s rise to fame, but also the struggles that came with it. As seen in the trailer, Marley was the subject of assassination attempts, but his positive outlook on life never waivered. Lashana Lynch portrays Marley’s wife Rita, who notes that “sometimes the messenger has to become the message” as Marley spreads the message of peace through his music.

This isn’t Ben-Adir’s first time portraying a real life icon. He played Malcolm X in Regina King’s superb One Night In Miami in 2020, but the London-born actor was last seen in Marvel’s Disney+ series Secret Invasion as the villainous Gravik.

Ben-Adir has spoken about being nervous to tackle the role.

“There were a lot of reservations,” Ben-Adir told Entertainment Weekly. “I was completely convinced that there’s no point in auditioning for this. I can’t sing. I can’t dance.”

Clearly, Ben-Adir did something right as he won the role after a worldwide search. Ben-Adir recently also appeared in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie as one of the Kens so perhaps the actor simply learned to channel his Kenergy to play Marley.

Green isn’t a stranger to portraying real people either. His last film, King Richard, won (rather controversially) Will Smith an Oscar for portraying Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams.

Bob Marley: One Love has been made in partnership with Marley’s family. His wife Rita, daughter Cedella and son Ziggy are all credited as producers. Terence Winter & Frank E. Flowers and Zach Baylin & Reinaldo Marcus Green with story credit going to Terence Winter & Frank E. Flowers.

James Norton, Tosin Cole, Anthony Welsh, Michael Gandolfini, Umi Myers, and Nadine Marshall star alongside Ben-Adir and Lynch. As heard in the trailer, the film will be filled with Marley’s music, including hits like ‘Redemption Song’ and ‘Three Little Birds’.

Bob Marley: One Love is in UK and Irish cinemas 14 February 2024.
