Due out in 2026, Steven Spielberg’s secretive film – said to be about UFOs – has begun filming in New Jersey.

Work on Steven Spielberg’s next film, due for release in 2026, is officially underway, with its stars spotted filming outdoor scenes in New Jersey earlier this week.

Local news outlet NJ.com (via World of Reel) has a couple of candid snaps from the production, with co-stars Emily Blunt and Wyatt Russell shown wearing sensible winter coats.

The accompanying report says that the stars were performing a scene which involved “grasping each other’s hands and embracing”, with a smoky gas station providing the backdrop.

The production is shrouded in an unusual level of secrecy even by Hollywood standards. It’s a little over a year away from release and yet we haven’t seen a synopsis or even a confirmed title. At one stage, it was said to be called The Dish – that name showed up during an IMAX presentation in July 2024. It’s now rumoured to be called Disclosure – a title that might support earlier reports that Spielberg’s making a UFO movie – while according to NJ.com, the production’s code name is 'Non-View’.

A listing on Backstage, seeking ‘nonunion talent’ also carries the same title. A quick search on the US Copyright’s archives also reveals that the title Non-View was filed by Amblin Entertainment and Universal Pictures on the 16th December 2025. Could this be the name Spielberg eventually goes with? We can only wait and see.

The film itself marks the latest collaboration between Spielberg and screenwriter David Koepp; the pair previously worked together on Jurassic Park and its sequel The Lost World, as well as Indiana Jones And The Crystal Skull. Perhaps coincidentally, their adaptation of HG Wells’ The War Of The Worlds also used New Jersey as one of its filming locations.

Koepp has remained coy about this latest Spielberg project, though he said last December that it’s “like a sci-fi” and is a throwback, of sorts, to Spielberg’s early career. “It does harken back to maybe a different tone than [what he’s done lately],” the writer told The Playlist. “Something he used to do that he hasn’t done for a little bit.”

Joining Blunt and Russell in the leads are Colman Domingo, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth and Eve Hewson. Will they play a part in a fast-paced thrill ride akin to Jurassic Park, or will it be a more dramatic piece, like 1977’s Close Encounters Of The Third Kind? For now, Universal Pictures simply describes it as a “new original event film.”

Spielberg’s Disclosure (or perhaps Non-View) is scheduled for release on the 12th June 2026.
