Despite the writers’ strike freezing things, sequels to I Am Legend and Constantine still appear to be moving forward.

Akiva Goldsman has been out and about promoting his AppleTV+ series, The Crowded Room. Whilst on press duties, he was asked about the current status of two high-profile film sequels, those being I Am Legend 2 and Constantine 2.

As you’re likely aware, there’s a writers’ strike happening in Hollywood at the moment meaning all writers have downed pens and as such, progress on writing the scripts for these two projects has been suspended until such a time when the Writers Guild of America (WGA) can come to terms with the alliance of producers who are so far refusing to meet the demands of the striking writers.

However, Goldsman has confirmed that both projects are still in the works, stating, “my pens are down, so there’s nothing to do. But, yeah, those are the next things I’m writing when I’m allowed to write again. And I had already begun [I Am] Legend 2 when we [started striking], and Francis [Lawrence], Keanu [Reeves], and I have broken Constantine 2. I just haven’t started typing yet.”

As for when Goldsman might start typing again, that depends entirely on when the strike is resolved. Depending on the outcome of negotiations between producers and the acting guild which are set to reach a definitive conclusion two days from now, the strikes afflicting Hollywood could either end very, very quickly or become very drawn out.

We’ll bring you more updates on either of these projects as we hear them, but it will likely be some time yet.
