Job listings at Turtle Rock Studios for a senior combat designer ask for experience in āFPS, co-op and multiplayer games.ā Could it be a Back 4 Blood sequel?
Whatever Turtle Rock Studios is working on, itās a ātriple-A titleā, according to some job listings posted on the developerās website a few days ago (thanks, Very Ali Gaming). But a few details in those listings could hint that itās working on a sequel to its 2021 co-op shooter, Back 4 Blood.
Several job posts ā including a āLead Mission Scripterā ā ask for either experience of or affection for āFPS, co-op, and multiplayer games.ā
Of particular interest is an advert for a Senior Combat Designer, which says the successful candidate will āDesign and develop combat gameplay, including player movement, controls, and camera from concept to completion, with a focus on how combat gameplay feels against AI and other players.ā
The post also reads, āIdeally, you are someone experienced with combat/weapons, class design, skills, and boss encounters.ā
All of this could certainly apply to a sequel to Back 4 Blood ā the 2021 shooter that was itself a spiritual successor to the much-liked Left 4 Dead games.
Support for Back 4 Blood ended in February, with Turtle Rock stating that it was shifting its focus on a new project. āTurtle Rock Studios is actually pretty small for a studio making AAA games,ā the studio wrote at the time. āWe donāt have quite enough folks to continue working on Back 4 Blood content while we spin up another game ā yes, another game! Given this, itās time for us to put our heads down, get backing the lab, and get to work on the next big thingā.
Turtle Rockās mystery triple-A game could, possibly be a Back 4 Blood sequel, then, but then again, it could be working on a sequel to Evolve, its 2015 asymmetric multiplayer shooter. Or maybe itās something original. Time ā and possibly future, even more revealing job listings ā will tell.
