Yes, you read the headline right; Bradley Cooper’s next directorial effort is a film based on comedian John Bishop. More on that below.
Bradley Cooper is getting comfortable in the director’s chair again with a rather surprising film. Is This Thing On?, which has just wrapped filming according to Beyond The Joke, is a rom-com inspired by the life and adventures of John Bishop. Comedian Chloe Radcliffe originally revealed the movie was in the works on Richard Herring’s RHLSTP podcast.
Not only is Is This Thing On? directed by Cooper, he’s also co-written the script with Will Arnett, who is also starring in the film as a man who turns to stand-up comedy after his marriage breaks down. Cooper will also play the lead character’s best friend in the movie.
Bishop himself is on board as an executive producer. The film is only loosely based on his story and considering the talent involved, it’s safe to assume the story will be set in the US instead of good, ol’ England.
As well as being a certified movie star, Cooper has had remarkable success behind the camera. His first film as a director, A Star Is Born, received critical acclaim and brought Cooper Oscar nominations for his starring role and directing. His second film, Netflix’s Maestro, received a slightly less enthusiastic reception, but that film also managed to gather an impressive amount of awards nominations. Both are very interesting, bold films, I must say, so there’s plenty of reason to get excited about Cooper’s next film.
Is This Thing On? currently has no release date or even a release window, but we’ll make sure to keep you updated on that.
