Scream 7 is officially in development, as Happy Death Day and Freaky director Christopher Landon takes over from Radio Silence.

Given that the original Scream's postmodernist screenplay deconstructed the horror genre, it’s perhaps ironic that in the intervening years it has blossomed into one of the most popular (and profitable) horror franchises.

The 5th and 6th instalments were helmed by filmmaking duo Radio Silence, AKA Matt Bettinelli- Olpin and Tyler Gillet.

They will stay on as producers for Scream 7, but Happy Death Day and Freaky director Christopher Landon will direct the next instalment.

It’s all academic at the moment, because the writer’s strike means there is no screenwriter attached. James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick wrote the two most recent entries, and Landon is an acclaimed screenwriter himself.

Similarly, the ongoing actor’s strike means that there is currently nobody attached to star in the film.
