Clerks III is in post-production, and will be delivered to Lionsgate next spring – then it’s just sorting out a release date for it.

Having shot the film earlier this year, writer/director Kevin Smith is now deep into the world of post-production on the long-in-gestation Clerks III. As always, he’s been keeping his fanbase up to date with what’s going on via his podcasts, in this case the latest episode of Fatman Beyond Live.

The film is currently going through a couple of test screenings for distributor Lionsgate, and will be getting a fuller test screening too beyond the gates of the studio. Across this process, Smith has been bringing the running time of the film down as well, and he’s thus far shaved some 14 minutes from his original cut of 108 minutes. It now stands at 94 minutes including the opening sequence.

He’s going through choosing the music for the film now, and he also confirmed that the current release plan is to get Clerks III into the world around the middle of 2022, perhaps towards the end of next year. “Clearly it ain’t going to be out in 2021”, he confirmed.

The film will be delivered to Lionsgate in March, so from that point onwards, it’ll be the studio’s call. More on the film as we hear it.
