The iconic videogame Duke Nukem is heading to the big screen for the first time: more news on it right here.
The history of video game to film adaptation is eclectic. with the quality varying wildly. For every successful project like 2018’s Sonic The Hedgehog, we also have notorious critical and commercial failures like 1993’s Super Mario Brothers. There was even a John Cena headlined Duke Nukem film mooted back in 2018, which failed to materialize (although Duke Nukem may finally be on his way to the screen, we hear).
The talent behind this version of Duke Nukem, though, points to it being a success. Showrunners of the hugely popular Netflix TV show Cobra Kai, Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are behind the project, producing for Legendary Entertainment.
The videogame series follows the L.A based titular character, as he fights off alien invaders. With groundbreaking graphics and millions of copies sold, it’s surprising it’s taken this long for a film to materialize.
A search for a writer and director for the film is underway.
