Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd run over a mythical creature in the upcoming A24 black comedy, Death Of A Unicorn. Here’s a trailer.
A24 has revealed the trailer for its star-packed black comedy film, Death Of A Unicorn, which is slated to arrive in spring of next year.
The film boasts quite an ensemble: Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega, Richard E. Grant, Téa Leoni, Will Poulter, Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, Jessica Hynes and Steve Park all feature in the film, helmed by first-time feature director Alex Scharfman. Midsommar's Ari Aster produces, and it even has a score composed by John Carpenter.
As for the story, it’s said to be a ‘satirical spin on modern capitalism and its systemic exploitation’, with the story focusing on ‘a father and his teenage daughter who accidentally run over and kill a unicorn on the way to a crisis management retreat. His boss, a wealthy billionaire and his family seize upon the moment, and their scientists discover that dead creatures’ flesh, blood, and horn are endowed with miraculous curative properties from which they could quickly make another fortune.’

We wonder if this one might be targeting a late spring release, perhaps at one of the film festivals? Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega is a pairing that has plenty of promise on both a comedic and a dramatic level, while Will Poulter’s rich goofy character arguably steals the trailer.
It’s a strange concept that could just as easily misfire as work, but A24 have excellent form in this area, and we’re keen to see if the studio’s tastemakers have once again found and developed another strange, interesting story to add to its impressive stable. Among the production company’s films released in 2024 you’ll find Civil War, MaXXine, Love Lies Bleeding and I Saw The TV Glow. When we get confirmed release details for Death Of A Unicorn, we’ll let you know.
Until then, Here’s the trailer below.
