Directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, known as ‘Daniels’ have signed an exclusive five year deal with Universal.
The directing duo known as ‘Daniels’ has impressed with the breakout success of Everything Everywhere All At Once, which has grossed more than $100m at the global box office, received critical acclaim, and is A24’s biggest ever film. Now, the two directors, alongside their producing partner Jonathan Wang, have signed an exclusive five year deal with Universal, Deadline reports.
It comes as part of a push from Universal to forge strong ties with high-profile filmmakers. Nope and Get Out director Jordan Peele has signed a similar deal.
Chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group Donna Langley said “Daniels are creators who have evolved their craft with a distinct vision and singular voice that is unmistakable across the spectrum of content vying for viewer’s attention. Their films are remarkably theatrical and with only two original projects under their belts, they’ve merely scratched the surface of what they are capable of as filmmakers. We’re grateful they’ve chosen to go on their journey with us.”
As for what Daniels are up to next, they’ve announced that they’ll be directing and executive producing Mason, a comedy, for Showtime. Also executive producing are Jonathan Wang, Steven Yeun, Nathan Min and Adam Kopp.
