A star investigative journalist is hiding a terrible secret in the first Disclaimer trailer – Alfonso Cuarón’s thrilling foray into TV.

Sounds like Lydia Tar didn’t scratch all of Cate Blanchett’s ā€œpowerful woman with dark secretā€ itches – the four-time BAFTA winner looks to be falling from grace with gusto in the first trailer for Alfonso Cuarón’s seven-part psychological thriller.

Heading to Apple TV+ in weekly instalments from October, the show is based on Renée Knight’s 2015 bestseller of the same name, and marks Cuarón’s first dive into TV since co-creating Believe in 2014, and his first large-scale project since the Oscar-winning Roma in 2018.

Here’s the synopsis:

Acclaimed journalist Catherine Ravenscroft (Blanchett) built her reputation revealing the misdeeds and transgressions of others. When she receives a novel from an unknown author, she is horrified to realize she is now the main character in a story that exposes her darkest secrets and threatens to destroy her family.

As Catherine races to uncover the writer’s true identity, she is forced to confront her past before it destroys her life and her relationships…

Alongside Blanchett, the starry cast also includes Sacha Baron Cohen as Catherine’s husband Robert, and Kodi Smit-McPhee as her son, Nicholas.

The trailer ends with the bloody intriguing (if legally surprising) addendum: ā€œAny resemblance to persons living or dead is not a coincidenceā€. That sounds like some good marketing to us…

Disclaimer premieres Friday, 11th October with the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Friday.
