Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi thriller Disclosure Day has been rated PG-13 for action/violence and some bloody images.
A new film from Steven Spielberg is always worth looking forward to – especially when it promises to explore similar territory to Close Encounters Of The Third Kind.
Starring Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor, Disclosure Day is a sci-fi thriller seemingly about a whistleblower attempting to reveal information about alien visitors, and a secretive organisation which (mis)uses extra-terrestrial tech for its own ends.
Ahead of its release in June, the Motion Picture Association has rated the film PG-13. An entry on its Film Ratings website confirms its previous rumoured title, Non-View, and provides the reason for its classification:
Rated PG-13 for action/violence, some bloody images and strong language.
The trailers certainly point to a fair bit of action, including a car chase that intersects violently with a train track. We’ll have to wait and see where the ‘bloody image’ come in.
Separately, there are reports (via World of Reel) that Disclosure Day’s runtime is two hours and 25 minutes. If accurate, that makes it a tad longer than even Close Encounters’ lengthiest cut, which weighed in at one hour and 17 minutes. (The theatrical cut was one hour 15).
Modern blockbusters have trended towards the lengthier side, though, and Spielberg’s thriller appears to take in quite a bit of UFO lore, from the Roswell incident in 1947 up to the present. Encouragingly, the filmmaker has said that there are plenty of surprises in the third act that haven’t been revealed in promotional material so far.
Disclosure Day releases in cinemas on the 12th June.
