Rogue Squadron is the latest Star Wars film to find itself pulled from the release schedule as Lucasfilm aims to find a new cinematic path for the franchise.
Disney has made some changes to its release schedule off the back of last weekās D23 convention, with the highest-profile change being a removal.
In news that will surprise nobody, the planned
Star Wars movie,
Rogue Squadron has been removed from its December 2023 slot. The film, which was set to be directed by Patty Jenkins, has held the slot for almost a year now, despite Jenkins reportedly freezing her commitment to it over creative differences. As far back as last November the project was removed from Disneyās production slate and now it has been pulled from the release schedule too.
The delay was originally put down to Patty Jenkins’ crammed schedule, what with
Wonder Woman 3 and a
Cleopatra film in development too. However, since then Jenkins has stepped back from directing
Cleopatra to produce instead and yet still
Rogue Squadron hasnāt found a path forwards. It’s a problem that seems to plague lots of
Star Wars films, with
Rogue One and
Solo being just two of the higher-profile examples where directors arenāt given the trust or the freedom to make the films that they envision.
Whilst itās fun to see Disney shows like
She-Hulk: Attorney At Law take direct aim at the fringe fanbase who tend to sound off regularly and loudly about news like this, when it comes to its Lucasfilm division, the company really doesnāt help itself by seemingly getting itself into the same difficult positions over and over again, providing plenty of ammunition for those voices who tend to overreact just a tad.
Disney also added release dates for several other projects:
Next Goal Wins ā April 21st 2023
Haunted Mansion ā August 11th 2023
Wish ā November 22nd 2023.
Elio ā March 1st 2024
Snow White ā March 22nd 2024.
Inside Out 2 ā June 14th 2024 release
Mufasa ā July 5th 2024 release.
Finally, an untitled Marvel movie has been shifted from February 16th 2024 to a new slot on September 6th 2024. Now sitting after
Thunderbolts, this will either become the last film in Phase 5 or the first film in Phase 6, ahead of
Fantastic Four.
More as we hear it.
