Martial arts superstar Donnie Yen is to lead a cinematic adaptation of classic Chinese novel Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils.

Despite claims that he would start to wind down after 2019’s Ip Man 4, Donnie Yen is as busy as ever.

According to The Hollywood Reporter , Yen will play martial arts master Qiao Feng Śakra, which is adapted from wuxia novel Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils by Jin Long.  One of the bestselling novels in Chinese history, the film will be directed by Steve Cheng and produced by kung fu cinema stalwart Wong Jing, who previously wrote and co-starred alongside Yen in 2020’s Enter The Fat Dragon.

The novel is a sprawling epic that takes in over two hundred and thirty characters and multiple plotlines, and as such Śakra is set to launch a franchise. It has been adapted multiple times over the years, perhaps most notably The Dragon Chronicles: The Maidens, starringBrigitte Lin in 1994.
