Ah-ha. Some nine months after the existence of the film Honeymoon With Harry was first announced, it’s got to the point where filming is now about to begin. It retains the same name, Kevin Costner and Jake Gyllenhaal are leading the ensemble, and the shoot is taking place in Brisbane. Filming is set to get underway at the start of April, and that presumably means that Gyllenhaal has now wrapped on Road House 2, or whatever that film ends up being called.
Honeymoon With Harry should put some useful funds into Kevin Costner’s bank account, that hopefully he’ll direct to unplugging his Horizon series of westerns.
No word on a release date yet, but it’s got 2027 written all over it.
Here’s our original story from last year…
—
Just over a year since the release of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter One, Kevin Costner’s four-movie western epic remains in some degree of limbo. The second film has been completed and screened, but not distributed. There’s a legal case about the way a scene in the second movie was shot. There’s no sign of films three and four going before the cameras, as Costner continues to raise funds to finish the series off.
In the meantime, he’s signed up for a new film, and presumably the income from that might be useful at the moment. He’s going to be co-starring with Jake Gyllenhaal in Honeymoon With Harry, a new comedy drama that’s been backed by Amazon MGM Studios.
It’s based on a book by Bart Baker, with Costner taking on the role of Gyllenhaal’s prospective father-in-law. Thing is, when Gyllenhaal’s bride-to-be/Costner’s daughter dies two days before the wedding, the pair go on the honeymoon anyway.
Dan Fogelman has adapted the book for the screen, and the directors here are Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. They have Crazy Stupid Love to their name, along with the Will Smith caper Focus, and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot amongst their previous movies.
The project has been officially announced by Amazon MGM Studios, which is looking to put around 15 films a year into cinemas. Hopefully this’ll be one of them, and the expectation is that filming will get underway this year. Best guess, and no release date has been announced, is that we’ll be seeing it towards the end of 2026.
More on Honeymoon With Harry as we hear it. And I’ll keep digging to see when there’s any sign that we’ll be getting Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter Two. Currently, it’s not sitting anywhere on the release schedule in front of me, though.
