The release date for Downton Abbey 2 has been changed, with the film now releasing in March 2022.

Christmas is cancelled. Ok, well it’s not, but for Downton fans it might as well be. Focus Features and Universal Pictures International have delayed the global release of Downton Abbey 2, now set to release in March 2022.

Whilst no reasons have been given for the shift, release dates are in a constant state of flux at the moment with the bottleneck of delayed films impacting release schedules for all major studios as the try to not bash in to each other at the box office.

In its original date, the film would be going against Sing 2 and The Matrix 4 (in the states anyway), however now it will be a week ahead of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness and likely act as a popular alternative for non superhero fans.

The original cast of Downton Abbey (Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Maggie Smith and more) all set to return, as well as new additions Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West joining the cast.

Downton creator Academy-Award winner Julian Fellowes will once again write the film’s screenplay, with Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning Gareth Neame and Emmy Award-winning Liz Trubridge back to produce.  BAFTA and Emmy nominated director Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn) will be directing the sequel.
