Reports suggest that Edgar Wright is gearing up to begin production on his next film later this year.
Edgar Wright’s last movie was 2021’s Last Night in Soho, a film that wrapped physical production all the way back in 2019. As always, Wright has plenty of projects bubbling away, including a Baby Driver sequel and an adaptation of The Running Man, to name but two.
However, World of Reel is reporting that The Chain is the project that Wright is looking to get set up next, with the filmmaker eyeing a September shoot. Originally announced by Universal back in 2020, the film will adapt the Ian McKinty novel in which ‘Rachel, a single mother with cancer who receives a call that her daughter Kylie has been kidnapped. To rescue her daughter, she must kidnap another, however, Kylie will only be released once the parents of that child kidnap yet another one, thus continuing the titular Chain.’
Post-pandemic, Wright talked about his reluctance to make Baby Driver 2, given his desire to push into new stories rather than revisiting existing ones, especially in the stretched-out timeline of pandemic filmmaking. In that context, it’s not surprising that The Chain is next in line for the filmmaker and we’re looking forward to hearing more details.
