A Quiet Place: Day One star Lupita Nyong’o has reportedly joined an impressive ensemble cast for Christopher Nolan’s mysterious next project.
Not long ago we enjoyed a sustained blitz of rumours focused on the genre of Christopher Nolan’s next project. The British director’s follow-up to last year’s hugely-acclaimed Oppenheimer has been announced, but the nature of the film is being kept under wraps even by Nolan’s secretive standards. According to the latest report we heard, all of the ‘leaks’ so far have been wide of the mark.
We may not know what Nolan’s next film will be, but we are getting a steady drip-feed of information regarding who will be involved. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest addition to the film’s growing cast is Lupita Nyong’o, the star of this year’s A Quiet Place: Day One. While the actor is new to Nolan’s group of actors, she’s very much a known entity to Universal, the studio backing the film. Nyong’o is the voice of The Wild Robot, the studio’s impressive animated film directed by Chris Sanders, and she was also the star of Us, Jordan Peele’s 2019 slasher flick.
Nyong’o joins an ensemble that includes two actors returning to work with Nolan again: Anne Hathaway and Matt Damon. Zendaya and Tom Holland are also part of the cast, although Jeff Sneider has recently claimed that Zendaya’s role in the film is little more than a cameo.
At this point, the anticipation for new additions to the cast is becoming as fun as the emergence of new reports claiming that the film is a helicopter cop movie or a period vampire thriller. All will eventually be revealed, but for now, we’re content to bask in the steady release of nuggets of info like this one, until the true nature of Nolan’s next project is eventually made public.
Nyong’o has been heavily involved with franchise projects over the past few years, taking roles (or reprising roles) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars and the aforementioned A Quiet Place prequel, as well as leading the ensemble in Simon Kinberg’s attempted espionage franchise starter, The 355. We’re assuming that Nolan’s next picture will be a standalone film and Nyongo has some heavyweight credentials in this area too, let’s not forget that she won an Oscar for her work in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave.
We’ll bring you more on Nolan’s next project as we hear it.
