Two new superstages lead a big extension to Elstree Studios, that’s now been given the nod.
In a boost to British film production, Elstree Studios has had the greenlight for a planned expansion at its Borehamwood site.
Hertsmere Borough Council has given the nod for the building of two new superstages at the site. That’s on top of new workshops and offices to help keep those superstages busy.
The new facilities are particularly needed, given the long term deal that Sky has inked for Sky Studios Elstree, from which it plans to make a large amount of programming. The new development is set to create thousands of jobs, and it’ll be built a short distance away from the existing studio setup.
No exact word yet on when building work will get underway, but with the planning red tape cleared, it looks like it’s full steam ahead for the project.
That image at the top is the artists’ impression of the new development.
