A24ās upcoming espionage thriller Enemies, said to be filming this summer, lands Austin Butler and Jeremy Allen White in its lead roles.
A report has popped up at Reel Chicago claiming that the city will play host to the production of Enemies, A24ās planned espionage thriller that is set to go before cameras this summer. Currently, the final few episodes of The Bear are shooting in and around Chicago, and the story suggests that lots of the same crew will be moving straight onto Enemies once work on the prestige drama is wrapped up.
One familiar face who looks set to join them is Jeremy Allen White, the seriesā co-lead. White plays Carmy, the demanding head chef in the critically-acclaimed FX series about a Chicago sandwich shop that retools itself as a high-end restaurant. According to the report, White will play one half of the titular āenemiesā in some kind of āspy vs spyā setup.
As well as finishing up work on the fourth series of The Bear, White has played Bruce Springsteen in the upcoming biopic, Deliver Me From Nowhere. Heās also provided the voice of Rotta the Hutt for the upcoming Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian And Grogu.
Lining up opposite White according to the report is Austin Butler. The American actor has recently wrapped production on Darren Aronofskyās Caught Stealing and is expected to begin filming American Speed with Tom Holland at some point this year, a racing drama that still doesnāt have an announced director yet.
We canāt help but wonder if Butler had put this summer aside for the production of Heat 2 which he has been strongly linked to for some time now. However, Michael Mann seems to be having trouble convincing Warner Bros to pull the trigger on his sequel, and so perhaps the actor finds himself with a little more time than expected. If that is the case, then itās to the benefit of A24, which is reportedly getting Enemies made for a budget of $25m.
Weāre curious as to the tone of the film. Is this going to be one of those more action-oriented A24 films that we heard the studio would be leaning into a couple of years ago? Or could this be something more on the paranoid and twitchier end of the thriller spectrum? Who will be directing?
More questions than answers at the moment. Will fill in the blanks when we can.
