Downton Abbey is getting something of a send-up, as filming on Fackham Hall gets underway in the north of England. More here.
Filming is now underway on a new British comedy by the name of Fackham Hall, which is shooting in the north of England. Filming locations are set to include Leeds and Liverpool for the movie, which is a send-up of period dramas.
Behind the camera, the feature marks the movie screenwriting debut of Jimmy Carr, who has written the script with the Dawson brothers and Patrick Carr. They’ve fashioned a screenplay that’s got Downton Abbey-esque material in its sights by the sounds of it. British cinema has had a go at this before, with Gary Sinyor’s Stiff Upper Lips back in 1997. Fackham Hall, from the title alone, sounds like a very different beast.
The cast features Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Thomasin McKenzie (brilliant in the incoming Joy, incidentally), Emma Laird and Katherine Waterston.
Jim O’Hanlon, who’s previously directed the likes of The Punisher, Inside No 9 and In The Flesh on TV, as well as the two Your Christmas Or Mine films, is behind the camera for Fackham Hall
As per The Knowledge, the film’s coming from Mews Films, a company set up to specifically try and seek out and bring to the screen British comedy feature films. The aim is to make the films for cinema release, and all power to them for that.
The synopsis that’s popped up online reads as follows…
A new porter forms an odd bond with the youngest daughter of a well-known UK family. As the Davenport family, headed by Lord and Lady Davenport, deals with the epic disaster of the wedding of their eldest daughter to her caddish cousin.
Filming got going at the start of the month, and we’d imagine there’s a good chance of a release in 2025. We will, of course, keep you posted. And here’s to more comedies in cinema. Something to be encouraged, that.
