Farrelly Brothers to reunite for Dear Satan

Bobby and Peter Farrelly are set to work together again for the first time since 2014’s Dumb and Dumber To: more on Dear Satan here.

The Farrelly Brothers haven’t directed a film together since 2014’s Dumb and Dumber To. Whilst that film didn’t exactly set the world alight, before that point they had racked up a popular trio of comedies in particular that enjoyed widespread acclaim in the form of Dumb and Dumber, There’s Something About Mary and Kingpin.

Since that point, the duo have worked on their own material. Peter Farrelly would direct Green Book and more recently, The Greatest Beer Run Ever, whilst Bobby has the Woody Harrelson comedy Champions in cinemas as we speak. However, it looks like there are plans for the pair to reunite for Dear Satan.

As you might imagine from the directors of the films listed above, the idea is amusingly juvenile, focusing on ‘Liam, a likeable 6th grader, writes to Santa asking him to prove that he’s real. But Liam is dyslexic and accidentally sends his letter to Satan instead, who shows up at Liam’s house, excited to have his first fanboy letter and wanting a little of Liam’s soul.’

Searchlight Pictures is backing the production based on a script that the studio bought on spec all the way back in 2012 when the Farrelly Brothers were set to make it. Over a decade later, that has finally come to pass with production having just begun. The cast for this one is as yet unknown, and shooting is expected to run until May with an end of year release window looking like a possibility. We’ll bring you more on Dear Satan as we hear it.
