Starring Martin Freeman, Flavia De Luce will begin production in the UK in October. More on the film below.
Martin Freeman, Jonathan Pryce and Toby Jones are all set to star in Bharat Nalluri’s Flavia De Luce. Based on a series of novels by Alan Bradley, the upcoming film will follow the titular 11-year-old amateur detective and master poisoner as she investigates a murder her father is accused of.
KFTV reports that the film is set to shoot in the Reading/Guildford area this October. The entire film will be shot on location, too, making it a nice change of pace from this summer’s CGI-heavy offerings.
Susan Coyne has adapted the first of 10 Flavia De Luce novels for the film and Protagonist Pictures took their film to Cannes earlier this year to introduce the film to buyers. We hope that went well.
“Flavia is a most charming and resourceful heroine with an insatiable curiosity in her fearless pursuit of the truth and we have no doubt this amateur detective will become a firm family favorite as she jumps from page to screen. Full of mystery, suspense and humor and rounded out with a fantastic cast, this is exactly the type of film audiences are craving for and we are honored to be launching Flavia’s first big screen adventure into the marketplace,” said Protagonist Pictures CEO Dave Bishop last year when casting was first announced.
The cast’s roles are currently being kept secret. Variety reported last year that Isla Gie was set to play Flavia in the film, but KFTV has named Molly Belle Wright as the actress in the role.
There’s no release date announced quite just yet, but we’ll make sure to update you on that.
