Lionsgateās āloose remakeā of Misery, Hurry Up Tomorrow, is arriving this spring. Hereās the first trailer for the film.
The path of Hurry Up Tomorrow to cinema screens hasnāt exactly been a smooth one. The film was shot a couple of years ago and stars an intriguing leading trio of Jenna Ortega, The Weeknd and Barry Keoghan in a film that was dubbed as a āloose remake of Miseryā when reports of its existence first emerged.
When you combine two of todayās biggest young movie stars, a music star and a remake of a beloved 1990 Stephen King film adaptation, youāve already got a curious mix of ingredients . Add in Trey Edwards Shults ā the Krisha filmmaker ā as director and this seems like a project likely to pique interest from studios.
However, that proved to not be the case, or if studios were interested, they remained hesitant to take the plunge and purchase the project.
Despite having wrapped production in early 2023, Hurry Up Tomorrow wouldnāt find a buyer until November of 2024. While a portion of that would of course be the post-production phase, it was still a rather protracted period that caused the industry trades to remark upon the filmās status as seemingly complete but without a studio backer.
It would be Lionsgate that would eventually come in and buy the movie, which also features a tie-in album: The Weeknd’s sixth studio record (of the same name), which recently released and explores many of the filmās themes. A release date of May 16th has been announced for the UK, with the film expected to open theatrically. The promotional campaign for the film has also begun, with Lionsgate releasing a trailer for the film which you can watch below.
Shults, The Weeknd and Reza Fahim co-wrote the film which centres on āan artist on the verge of a mental breakdown. He meets a stranger, a woman, and the pair go on an odyssey together that begins unravelling his mind.ā
