As he did with Mad Max: Fury Road, director George Miller plans to release a monochromatic, Black And Chrome edition of this year’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
Following in the dusty tyre tracks of 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga could eventually get its own black and white edition.
Miller revealed as much on Happy Sad Confused, the podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz, in which the Mad Max filmmaker said the monochrome Furiosa’s would be called Tinted Black And Chrome.
It’s a title that echoes Black And Chrome, the colour-free edition of Mad Max: Fury Road released in 2016. At the time, Miller described it as “the best version of the movie.” (Miller originally wanted to release Fury Road in cinemas as a black and white movie, an idea that probably horrified its studio; he later conceded that “people reserve that for art movies now.”)

As for the monochrome Furiosa, Miller said that it’s already complete.
“We’ve done it already,” Miller said, as picked up by World of Reel. “It’s the last thing I did on this film, and I call it “Tinted Black And Chrome,” or I want to call it Tinted Black And Chrome. I must say, it’s really interesting. I’m still trying to demystify why the black and white, for me, has something more elemental to it. I still can’t quite put my finger on it. It’s not because they look like old black-and-white movies, it’s something else. It’s like if we took a picture of ourselves right now, it might look a little more dramatic if it was black and white.”
The Black And Chrome Edition of Fury Road wasn’t included with its initial home release on DVD and Blu-ray in 2015, and was only included with the Mad Max: High Octane collection which came out the following year. Time will tell whether Furiosa's Tinted Black And Chrome will follow a similar pattern or not.
Furiosa is, of course, out in cinemas now. We thought it was really rather marvellous.
