The long awaited spin off to Mad Max: Fury Road is finally in front of the cameras, ahead of its release in 2024. You wait years for a George Miller film, then two come along at once. This year will see the release of Three Thousand Years of Longing. The trailer of that one promised Miller’s usual flair for colourful visuals and offbeat characters, with a cast that includes Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton. Now, though, Miller’s long in gestation Mad Max spin off is finally in production. It will follow Imperator Furiosa, who we first met in 2015’s Fury Road played by Charlize Theron, though this film will be a prequel. Anna Taylor-Joy will take on the title role, starring alongside Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke. Miller calls the film a “saga” which will unspool over a fifteen year timespan, and that’s all we know of the plot so far. As ever, Miller is set to write, direct and produce the film, and he has also confirmed that he will once again be working with Fury Road composer Tom Holkenborg on the film’s score. It is expected to be released in 2024.
