After years in gestation, Marvel’s Blade reboot is still at large – and may be dead, according to one insider.
Marvel has made spectacularly hard work of making a movie about an unflappable vampire killer, but here we are roughly seven years later, and still no Blade reboot.
Kevin Feige, Marvel’s head honcho, has previously said that the new take on the toothsome comic book is still happening; a more recent bit of gossip suggests it isn’t.
Speaking on The Hot Mic podcast (via Dark Horizons), the well-connected Jeff Sneider said that Blade is essentially “dead” and that, according to the whispers he’s heard, Mahershala Ali’s titular hero will be introduced in Midnight Sons instead.
What is Midnight Sons? Another team-up along the lines of Avengers, Suicide Squad or Thunderbolts*, but with a supernatural twist. It’s likely to feature some of Marvel’s spookiest heroes, including Ghost Rider, Doctor Strange, Moon Night and, yes, Blade.
That film is unlikely to be with us for some time, though: it doesn’t even have an official release date as yet, though 2028 or 2029 are thought to be likely slots for the shadowy spin-off.

By this point, it’ll have been roughly a quarter of a century since the previous solo-film featuring Blade – 2004’s Blade: Trinity. It’ll be almost a decade since the Oscar-winning Mahershala Ali was announced as the new Blade, replacing the great Wesley Snipes. It’s an odd situation, but one in keeping with a film project that has seen a revolving door or writers and directors come and go.
In July 2025, Kevin Feige called a bunch of reporters in for a press conference, in which he insisted that, even though at least one previous iteration of Blade had fallen apart just before filming was due to begin, it would still happen eventually. Now it sounds as though Marvel may have drawn a line under the whole idea; we’ll wait and see whether the studio comes forward with an official announcement one way or another in the coming days.
Mahershala Ali has previously expressed mild bewilderment over Blade's lack of movement. Mia Goth, who at one stage would have starred as its villain, also seemed baffled about the situation. “I don’t know what’s going on with that,” she said. “I don’t know why it’s taken the time that it has.”
