A fresh update arrives ahead of Godzilla’s latest appearance on our screens, with Godzilla Minus One landing this December.

It’s been over a year since Toho (the Japanese studio who created the mighty Godzilla) announced that it was working on a new Godzilla feature. The project is separate from the ongoing Warner Bros/Legendary franchise (we get a new entry in that series in 2024), and Toho’s latest work premiered last month in Tokyo.

Godzilla Minus One will mark Toho’s first domestic Godzilla film since 2016’s Shin Godzilla and will be directed by Takashi Yamazaki.
Here’s the synopsis:

After the war, Japan’s economic state has been reduced to zero. Godzilla appears and plunges the country into a negative state.

A period setting for a Gojira movie? Yes, please.

We’ve known for a while that the film is getting some kind of theatrical release in the US in December and it has now been confirmed that the movie will be headed to UK cinemas at the same time. The 15th December is the date for your diaries, and apparently there’ll be IMAX and 4DX screenings available as well. Those should be worth waiting for.

There’s plenty more of the kaiju on the way too, of course. Following 2021’s Godzilla Vs. Kong, Toho’s international collaboration with Legendary Pictures is continuing to put out blockbuster-sized entertainment featuring the one and only King of the Monsters.

Legendary’s television arm has developed a Godzilla series, Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters, again with producers from Toho. That will be arriving on Apple TV+ in a couple of weeks whilst  a Godzilla Vs Kong sequel  (titled Godzilla x Kong: New Empire) is slated for release next year, to be directed by Adam Wingard who helmed the last film.

We’ll leave you with the trailer ahead of its December release…
