David Tennant and Michael Sheen will return for a final, feature length episode of Good Omens.
The television adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s fantasy series Good Omens has been hugely successful over the last few years, not least due to the chemistry and charisma of leading duo David Tennant and Michael Sheen. The second series, which debuted in August 2023, was reported to be the number one show on Amazon Prime worldwide, and the first season was hardly struggling for acclaim, either.
The show had been commissioned for a third series before serious abuse allegations about Neil Gaiman (who wrote the adaptation) were made public. Gaiman has strongly denied those allegations.
Production on several of Gaiman’s projects, including Netflix’s Dead Boy Detectives, was halted, although it seems Netflix is still pressing ahead with the second series of The Sandman. You can read about the allegations here.
According to Deadline, Amazon will now wrap up the show with a 90 minute feature length episode. Gaiman did contribute to the script, but a new writer will be brought in to complete it and carry out any rewrites. Gaiman previously offered to step back from the production, and it has now been confirmed that both Gaiman and his production company the Blank Corporation are no longer involved. Though Gaiman wrote the first series alone, John Finnemore co-wrote the second series.
Tennant and Sheen will reprise their roles of demon Crowley and angel Aziraphale respectively. No other casting has been confirmed, the cast of the previous series included Jon Hamm, Miranda Richardson and Frances McDormand.
Rob Wilkins of Narrativia, representing Terry Pratchett’s estate, as well as BBC Studios Productions’ head of comedy Josh Cole will executive produce.
