Emilio Estevez will star in and direct Young Guns 3, thatās going to be shooting in New Mexico. More details of the announcement here.
Looking back through the archives of this very site, it was back in 2021 that first word of a possible Young Guns 3 sprung up. John Fusco, as we reported here, was returning after penning the first two movies to write the third. He announced via social media that he was collaborating with Emilio Estevez on getting the film moving.
Sometimes, a story like that comes and goes. This time, it’s actually happening. Overnight, Emilio Estevez announced that Young Guns 3 is definitely happening, and it’s going to be filming in New Mexico.
He confirmed this at a press conference, and straight away admitted that he was aware of jokes such as Old Guns and Aged Guns that were made when news of the project first surfaced. We’d never stoop to those levels, chums. Gulp.
Estevez will be one of the co-stars as well as directing the feature. Steve Graham, the director of the New Mexico Film Office accompanied Estevez for the press conference, and in lieu of any plot details at the moment, he said that “Young Guns is a big part of our film legacy in New Mexico, and to have them back and to have them so supportive of New Mexico is really exciting. Weāre happy to have them here”.
How many of the Young Guns will be returning for Young Guns 3 remains to be seen, and also, there’s the crucial question as to what Jon Bon Jovi’s doing as well.
There’s a lovely report on the announcement here from the Santa Fe New Mexican, where the outlet takes the trouble to interview local crew members, who describe the impact the sequel will have on the area. It’s the stuff that doesn’t often get reported, and it’s worth a read.
No word yet on when Young Guns 3 will start filming, but it’s a fair bet it’s not far away.
