Sony’s 3000 Pictures label is reportedly putting together a new Single White Female film ā Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell will star.
While the title might get an update, 1992ās Single White Female is reportedly getting the remake treatment at Sonyās 3000 Pictures Label. According to The InSneider, the psychological thriller has been plucked from the vaults and is being redeveloped as a project for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice's Jenna Ortega and Bones And All's Taylor Russell.
The original film hails from 1992, one of Hollywoodās greatest decades for thrillers (or at least, a certain type of thriller). Directed by Barbet Schroeder, the film starred Bridget Fonda as a New York software designer who puts out an ad for a female roommate. After accepting a young woman played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, things start to go sideways when her new acquaintance begins to exhibit some rather disturbing behaviour.
The film was a commercial success at the time, earning $84.1 million from a $16 million budget. Perhaps more tellingly, in a decade that was packed with memorable thrillers, the film managed to stand out amid a crowded field. A TV version was commissioned by NBC in 2011, but that never came to fruition. But with Sony behind it and Ortega and Russell attached, weāre betting that this version will see the light of day.

Itās yet another remake of a 1990s thriller for Ortega. The actor is already starring in the upcoming Hurry Up Tomorrow alongside The Weeknd and Barry Keoghan, which is a loose remake of 1990ās Misery. Ortega has previously found success with sequels to films spawned from that decade, such as Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice and a couple of Scream sequels.
Should a Single White Female remake prove to be a success, we canāt help but wonder which 90s thriller studios will seek to place Ortega in next. The Hand That Rocks The Cradle would be perfect, but thatās already being remade with Longlegsā Maika Monroe in the lead, so perhaps Double Jeopardy? The Nicole Kidman part in To Die For? Perhaps MIchael Keatonās role in Pacific Heights?
These ideas are probably already scribbled on a whiteboard somewhere in a Hollywood executiveās office as Ortega continues to lead a revival of the eraās thrillers. Weāll bring you more as we hear it.
