Directed by Top Gun: Maverickās Joseph Kosinski. Starring Cool Worldās Brad Pitt. Hereās the trailer for the high-octane racing movie, F1.
From 1967ās Grand Prix onwards, weāve seen several rip-roaring attempts to depict Formula 1 on screen.Asif Kapadiaās 2010 documentary Senna remains a stunning highlight, as does Ron Howardās 2013 drama Rush. On the small screen, thereās also Drive To Survive of course,a docuseries often credited with reviving the fortunes of the motorsport.
The next attempt to bring F1 to the silver screen comes courtesy of a blockbuster filmmaking team and a lot of money from Apple Orignal FIlms. Simply titled F1, the film is directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the duo behind the wildly successful 2022 action spectacular, Top Gun: Maverick. The screenplay has been penned by Ehren Kruger.
While the pair are said to be working on a UFO movie next, F1 sees them team up with Brad Pitt to try and depict the thrills and spills of Formula 1 racing. And guess what? We have a new trailer to gaze at ahead of the filmās release in June.
The synopsis for F1 reads as follows:
Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a Formula One driver who raced in the 1990s, has a horrible crash, forcing him to retire from Formula One and start racing in other disciplines. A Formula One team owner and friend contacts Hayes and asks him to come out of retirement to mentor rookie prodigy Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) on the Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP).
The cast also includes Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Javier Bardem, Sarah Niles, Samson Kayo, Kim Bodnia and professional F1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. Hamilton is also co-producing the film through his company Dawn Apollo Films.
It also brings Bruckheimer back to racing films: the legendary producer co-produced the 1990 Tom Cruise NASCAR film Days Of Thunder . The new trailer for F1 also reveals that weāll be getting a bit of NASCAR action too ā although would it be too much to ask for a sequel to that Days Of Thunder after the success of Top Gun: Maverick? (Apparently not, if the 2024 news that Tom Cruise is set to return for a belated follow-up movie is accurate. Show me heaven, indeed.)
F1 will be released in UK cinemas on the 27th June 2025. Hereās the trailer below:
