Guillermo del Toro, who sadly didn't direct a Star Wars film or Pacific Rim 2.

It’s by no means a sure thing but Guillermo del Toro is currently setting something monstrous up and his next project.

Guillermo del Toro is beginning to pop up once again on the awards circuit for his upcoming stop motion take on Pinocchio, with the Netflix film already earning some early buzz in those circles. The Oscar-winning filmmaker is already looking ahead to his next project though. Just the other day he was talking up the prospect of finally making his dream project, an adaptation of HP Lovecraft’s At The Mountains Of Madness that would be completed in stop motion. However, it sounds like if that does happen, it won’t necessarily be his next movie.

Whilst chatting with the Variety Awards podcast, del Toro gave a pretty broad hint about what he’s working on next and he’s returning to a favourite central idea: that of the monster.

“Well, I’m working on a monster movie; I cannot say the title because it may change, and I could end up making something else. But right now, I’m writing and designing. And we have for the last couple of years. Hopefully, it’ll be next, but anything can happen.”

To some extent, monsters sit centrally or lurk at the periphery of every del Toro film but here it seems like this might be the most straight-up monster story we’ve seen him tell, if he’s choosing to label it that way.

Either way, we’re keen to learn more and will be sure to let you know just as soon as we hear it.

If you still haven’t caught up with his Netflix show, Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet Of Curiosities then that will certainly tide you over until more news arrives, although like us, del Toro is also waiting to hear if a second season has been commissioned. Sit tight and we’ll bring you further updates as they arrive.
