Jacob Elordi has been drafted in to take the role as Frankenstein’s Monster in Guillermo del Toro’s soon-to-shoot production.

Thankfully, it looks like Guillermo del Toro's planned take on the Frankenstein story has survived the chaos caused by last year’s strikes and is set to shoot next month.

However, the promising ensemble cast for the project isn’t quite intact: Andrew Garfield has vacated the role of the monster, and Deadline reports that Saltburn star Jacob Elordi to step into what could be another high-profile part.

As we’re seeing pretty frequently at the moment, rescheduling issues following months of inaction are forcing some actors to choose between projects that, pre-strike, wouldn’t have been clashing. This appears to be the case for Garfield, who’s had to exit del Toro’s Netflix project.

The promising film certainly represents another potential opportunity for Elordi to add to his growing star power. Following a buzzy turn in Saltburn, he’s currently appearing opposite Cailee Spaeny in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, the story of Priscilla Presley’s relationship with Elvis. You can catch our review for that one here.

Working with Guillermo del Toro will add another prestigious collaboration with a renowned filmmaker to Elordi’s filmography, – not to mention the prospect of lots of eyeballs seeing it given that it will undoubtedly be one of Netflix’s biggest film releases of the year. The ensemble cast he’s joining isn’t half bad either: Oscar Isaac, Christoph Waltz, Mia Goth and now Elordi make for quite the line-up of acting talent.

As for the project itself, we know that ‘Unfolding in 19th century Eastern Europe, the film tells the story of Dr. Pretorious (Isaac), who needs to track down the monster (Elordi) – who is believed to have died in a fire forty years before – in order to continue experiments on him.’

We’ll bring you more on this one as we hear it, but hopefully, everything is set now for del Toro and his collaborators to work their magic when the cameras roll next month.
